Well, that's just bitchy

OK, I really like what Communicate or Die is trying to do, but today's latest post is mean.
They've awarded a "Retro Site of the Week" award to some poor local of prison guards for having a primitive Web site. Maybe the techies at CoD should offer a little advice and assistance to that local, instead of just laughing at them. (Not that it isn't a little scary, mind you. If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you see the animated American flag.)

Update: Steve Dondley of CoD responded to this post (see comments), and tells us that he is, in fact, going to be offering help to the tech-impaired. I sit (happily) corrected.

As I type this, it occurs to me that we'll need the help of someone such as him when we eventually set up a proper Web site, so everyone be nice to him, 'K?

I do plan to offer free Drupal sites to sites like this. I'm in the process of setting that up.

Oh! That's good, then! I was just imagining these poor prison guards out there feeling all discouraged.
Well, OK, it's not really likely that they'd just happen to come across your site while surfing; doesn't look like they spend a lot of quality time online.
But sometimes you get weird surprises. On our forum, I mentioned the fact that a lot of unions' print publications are fugly; another poster mentioned a CWA organizing booklet as an example. So, of course, the next person to post was the guy who'd just passed that booklet out at our conference.
Of course, I put my foot in my mouth so often (online and off) that I should just leave it there to spare myself the trouble of all that lifting and lowering!

May I ask who is wearing the TribbleKat mask?

It is ok that the person heard critique of their work. The ideal level is just to be truthfull and honest in the present, real hard to do.

I try to organize around the principles "It is not about you, it is about building the union."
