Well, that's just bitchy

OK, I really like what Communicate or Die is trying to do, but today's latest post is mean.
They've awarded a "Retro Site of the Week" award to some poor local of prison guards for having a primitive Web site. Maybe the techies at CoD should offer a little advice and assistance to that local, instead of just laughing at them. (Not that it isn't a little scary, mind you. If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you see the animated American flag.)

Update: Steve Dondley of CoD responded to this post (see comments), and tells us that he is, in fact, going to be offering help to the tech-impaired. I sit (happily) corrected.

As I type this, it occurs to me that we'll need the help of someone such as him when we eventually set up a proper Web site, so everyone be nice to him, 'K?

Take this job...

Bored?
Frustrated?
Just plain fed-up? CNN/Money has some advice for people who are sick of their jobs.

But maybe you don't need to quit. Maybe you just need to work less. Find out what Canada's Work Less Party has to say about that.

Rethink the metaphor, please!

In describing what the Change to Win folks did, AFL-CIO leaders keep saying things such as "they picked up their marbles and left" or "they took their ball and went home."

This leaves us with one of two possible conclusions:
1. AFL-CIO has lost its marbles.
2. AFL-CIO has no balls.

I'm thinking that's not really the message they're trying to send...

In their own words

Ever hear of a "Quarterlife Crisis?"
About five years ago, the book by that name came out, and now there's a companion Web site. At that Web site, there's a set of message boards, including one on work.
Don't see any thread on unions ... yet.
There is one thread about that "entitlement generation" story.

Tiny Labor

Barbara Ehrenreich gives the AFL-CIO a piece of her mind.

Almost like being there

Wish you were at the AFL-CIO convention in Chicago? Here's the next best thing, courtesy of Webcast video at the official convention Web site.

Don't say they never gave ya anything...

Why are labor unions declining?

A blog post and comments on the state of unions.

Teens and technology

Here's a report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project: "Teens and Technology: Youth are Leading the Transition to a Fully Wired and Mobile Nation"

Now, 87 percent of those between the ages of 12 and 17 are online.

(Update: 7/29/2005) Steve Dondley at Communicate or Die refers to this report in a post, part of which is excerpted here:
"Today's middle-aged labor leaders just don't get it. Raised on television and newspapers, they are blind to the media revolution hurtling straight for them. To these leaders, the Internet is a novelty. But the next generation sees it as their lifeblood."
